BIG CITY BASKETBALL
Coach was born and raised in NYC, his father, Gordon was once a Harlem Globetrotter and can been seen in the movie GO MAN GO. Davids' first coaching job was in the 1970s, after school at the St. Marks Catholic School on 138th St. in Harlem. After college at FAMU in Tallahassee where he began his relationship with Clemon Johnson, a former NBA standout and head coach of the Rattlers Coach Gartrelle moved to Tampa to raise his family. He picked up his love for the game and continued by coaching the Riverside Park Smurfs to consecutive championships in the city's most prestigious league. Curtis Kitchen, the USF standout and Seattle Supersonic forward was a squad member, and the first Gartrelle alum into the NBA . Today, countless Alumni are participating in high School and college basketball worldwide.
Returning home, the mecca of basketball embraced Davids talent and love for basketball by rewarding him with opportunities at the high school, college and professional levels. While leading teams to victories and championships in basketball his focus for youth basketball and the teaching of fundamentals never changed. He returned to Florida in 2008 and brought his high energy, basketball first mentality and big smile to Central Florida.
During the regular season he is the Director for Big City Basketball and a referee. Big City has classes, camps and lessons 10 months a year in Melbourne.
During the summers Coach Gartrelle is on the road, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami & Barcelona. He is in his 30th year as a member of the New York Knicks summer basketball staff.
Coach Gartrelle is known for his, humorous and positive messages
regarding the game while offering challenging development on both the individual and team level.
He loves to teach the game and develop the self esteem of young players.
He is the father of five and resides in Miami Gardens, Florida with his fiancee,Patricia.
